Why We Installed EV Chargers at Our Campsite, and Why Guests Love Them
The way people travel is changing, and as caravan site owners, we’ve seen that change first-hand.
More and more of our guests now arrive in electric vehicles, whether they’re towing a caravan, driving a campervan, or simply escaping for a weekend in the countryside. A few years ago, EV charging was something only a handful of visitors asked about. Today, it’s one of the first questions many guests have before they book.
That’s exactly why we decided to install EV chargers on-site.
As a campsite, we’ve always tried to offer facilities that make holidays easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable. We noticed a growing number of enquiries asking:
At first, some guests were using standard electric hook-ups to top up their cars, but it quickly became clear that dedicated EV charging was the safer and more practical solution for everyone.
Installing proper chargers meant we could provide:
Most importantly, it gave guests peace of mind.
Camping and caravan holidays are all about relaxing, slowing down, and enjoying the outdoors. EV charging fits naturally into that experience.
Unlike motorway services where drivers need rapid charging in a hurry, campsite guests are usually staying overnight or for several days. That makes destination charging ideal.
Guests can simply plug in their vehicle when they arrive, enjoy their stay, and wake up with a fully charged battery ready for the next adventure.
For many EV owners, that convenience is a huge bonus.
Since installing our chargers, we’ve noticed a real increase in bookings from EV drivers at our holiday cottages as well as the caravan and campsite.
For many people planning a holiday, charging availability is now part of the decision-making process. Guests often tell us they specifically searched for campsites with EV chargers because they wanted to avoid the stress of finding public charging nearby.
Being able to advertise EV charging on our website and booking platforms has helped us stand out from other sites in the area.
It’s become another important facility alongside:
For some guests, EV charging is no longer a bonus, it’s an expectation.
One of the things we love most about camping holidays is the connection to nature. Many of our guests care deeply about the environment, sustainability, and low-impact travel.
Installing EV chargers felt like a natural step for us.
As a campsite, we’re always looking at ways to reduce our environmental impact and future-proof the business. We've held the Environmental Quality Mark Award (EQM) for 10+ years. Offering EV charging supports cleaner travel while helping guests make more sustainable choices.
It also reflects where the tourism industry is heading.
Before we had dedicated chargers, we occasionally had guests trying to charge vehicles from standard campsite electric supplies.
This created a few problems:
Dedicated EV chargers solved those issues immediately.
Now charging is:
It’s a much better setup for both guests and the campsite.
There’s no doubt that electric vehicle ownership will continue growing over the next few years. Installing EV chargers now means we’re ready for that future rather than trying to catch up later.
We see EV charging in the same way campsites once viewed Wi-Fi or electric hook-ups — something that gradually becomes a standard expectation.
By investing early, we’ve been able to:
Most importantly, it shows guests that we’re adapting to the way people travel today.
We genuinely believe EV charging will become increasingly important across the camping and caravan industry.
Guests want convenience. They want sustainable travel options. And they want confidence that they can enjoy their holiday without worrying about where to charge their vehicle.
For us, adding EV chargers has been a positive investment for both our business and our guests.
And judging by the feedback we’ve received so far, it’s one of the best decisions we’ve made.
